For any avid sports fan who was watched sports over the years one thing that you cannot deny is the effect of new technology on both view is the viewer and the athletes playing the sports, it almost seems that advancements in sports technology are being made faster every single year. Even in many things that we use in sport that we take for granted seem to be getting better all the time, I’m not talking about the latest high-definition televisions or 3D sports broadcasts, instead I am talking about the advancements in the sports equipment that we wear.
For example take basketball shorts these items without you knowing have been developed into purpose-built items of sports equipment. If you compare basketball shorts made 40 or 50 years ago they would appear very different to the shorts worn by modern-day athletes, it is probably not until you compare these items side-by-side that you get to understand the changes that have been made. Modern-day basketball shorts generally tend to be longer and much more loose than the shorts a basketball player would have worn 50 years ago, although you may think these changes are as a result of fashion trends the more you think about it you should realise the changes are deliberate actions that have taken place to make the shorts more lightweight and more comfortable.
The same situation exists in shoes for basketball for example again 40 or 50 years ago the shoes worn by basketball players were pretty much generic and resembled little more than standard gym shoes, if you compare that to the shoes used by players in the NBA today the differences are quite significant. If you take for example the design of the soles many of the soles will incorporate a certain level of patented shock absorption, whereas the material used to create the outer shoe will often be made of synthetic materials that have been strengthened in some way to support the players ankles.
One thing that is for certain is that these changes make the game more comfortable for the athletes which in turn will prevent injuries and make the game better quality for fans to enjoy.
